Diocese of the Midwest Hosts Canon Law Conference

From October 21-24, 2024, The Orthodox Church in America’s four-day Canon Law Conference was hosted by His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest. The conference was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Burr Ridge, IL.

The Canon Law Conference was requested by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America to help review and strengthen diocesan ecclesiastical court procedures. Archbishop Daniel, along with Archpriest Alexander Rentel, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, led the daily sessions which covered a range of topics, some of which included Canon Law in the Life of the Church, History, Development, and Nature of Church Courts, Formal Convening of a Court and Necessary Documentation.

Representing the Diocese was Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, Vice Chancellor of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania and Dean of the Frackville Deanery, and Priest Kirill Zawatski, Rector of Holy Ascension Church in Frackville, PA.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Archbishop Daniel presided over the Divine Liturgy. Serving with His Eminence was Priest Daniel Greeson, Rector of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, and Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki.
