On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Archpriest Michael Evans fell asleep in the Lord.
Born on October 3, 1947, Father Michael dedicated over four decades to ministry, serving the faithful with humility and devotion. Ordained in 1972 by Archbishop Kiprian of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, he spent the majority of his priestly career as rector of Saint Michael's Orthodox Church in Mount Carmel, PA, where he was known for his compassion, wisdom, humor and tireless service.
Throughout his ministry, Father Michael was honored with numerous ecclesiastical awards, including the Nabedrenik, Gold Cross, Palitza, and Jeweled Cross, as well as two Gramotas from the Holy Synod, recognizing his commitment to the Church. He was a 1972 graduate of St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary and earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education from Marywood University in 1982, reflecting his dedication to lifelong learning and spiritual formation.
Father Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Matushka Sonya, whom he married in 1972, and their son, Michael III. His spiritual leadership, kindness, and faithful service will be dearly missed.
