Diocesan Council Meets

The Diocesan Council of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania met on February 16, 2012 under the leadership of His Grace, Bishop Tikhon at Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church in Berwick.  In addition to the Council members, the entire meeting was attended by Orthodox Church in America Chancellor, Archpriest John Jillions.

Fr. Jillions stated that he was visiting all the dioceses and meeting with their councils, having attended meetings in the South and the West.  His purpose was to listen to the stories of the Church in its dioceses, not to impose plans or dictates from the Central Church Administration.  He commented on the recent meeting of Chancellors and Treasurers, spoke about the functioning of the Central Church Administration and fielded questions from Council members on a variety of issues.

The Council reviewed reports from the Diocesan Administration, including Bishop Tikhon, Chancellor Fr. John Kowalczyk and Treasurer Fr. Martin Browne.  Additionally, on behalf of the Revitalization Committee, Mr. Mark Linnehan offered an update on the Revitalization Committee plan.  Three parishes have expressed interest and one of them will be visited by the committee on March 10th as a first step to parish revitalization.

Discussions focused on communications strategy, crisis management, and legal/administrative issues, including the ongoing resolution of the land ownership at the Diocesan Center in South Canaan.  Initiatives were approved by the Council in each of the areas, including directives on crisis management  media relations, Diocesan property and Diocesan ByLaws.

The Council enjoyed the hospitality of the Holy Annunciation Church which provided the space for the meeting as well as a delicious luncheon.
