In the most important gathering of the year for our diocese, the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania had its 60th Diocesan Assembly on Thursday, January 25th and Friday, January 26th hosted by Christ the Saviour Church in Harrisburg, PA. The assembly brought together clergy and lay delegates in the spirit of faith, celebration and fellowship.
A key highlight of the assembly was a presentation by our featured guest, Fr. Alexander Rentel, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America. Delving into the complexities of Orthodox Church in America’s autocephaly, Fr. Alexander provided valuable insights, creating a deeper understanding among attendees.
Demonstrating a commitment to community and outreach, the assembly also voted on a generous gift of $20,000 bestowed upon the Diocese of Alaska, the mother diocese of the Orthodox Church in America. This contribution underscores the Diocese’s dedication to supporting fellow communities and dioceses within the broader Orthodox Church.
During the assembly, it was announced that Archbishop Mark, Our Archbishop, will mark a significant milestone later this year – his 10th anniversary as our Archpastor. The assembly expressed gratitude for his steadfast leadership and looked forward to commemorating this notable achievement later this coming year.
Along with the meetings, On Thursday evening, Daily Vespers was served by Fr. Stephen Vernak, rector of Christ the Saviour. A solemn Panikhida followed, a service that commemorated the departed members of our diocese. On Friday, celebration of the Divine Liturgy took place and was celebrated by His Eminence and clergy from the Assembly.
As the Diocese reflects on the success of its 60th Diocesan Assembly, the community looks forward to continued growth, spiritual enrichment, and collaborative efforts to strengthen the bonds within the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania and the Orthodox Church.
