On Sunday, October 25th, the opening of the Icons and relics on loan from St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Metropolitan Museum of the Orthodox Church in America took place at Marywood University in Scranton Pennsylvania. The day began on at 4:00 p.m. with a lecture delivered by the Very Rev. John Kowalczyk on Witnessing the Mother of God and her intercessory role in the lives of the Saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The lecture - filled to capacity - took place at the McGowan Community Room.
Following the lecture the Very Rev. John Perich, the organizer and curator of the event, invited everyone for a festive reception where all had the opportunity to ask questions. During the reception Fr. John Perich explained the self-guided tour of the Icon exhibition to everyone present. Everyone who went to the opening of the Icon Exhibition went away better informed on the role of the Theotokos in Sacred Tradition, the lives of the Saints in the Church and the theological and spiritual significance of Holy Icons in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
