Veneration of the Cross Mission Service in the Wilkes-Barre Deanery • Wilkes Barre

Bishop MARK makes hierarchical visitation • Wilkes-Barre - 04/07/2013

Parishioners and Clergy of the Wilkes-Barre Deanery gathered at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre to celebrate the Veneration of the Cross Vespers service on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  His Grace, Bishop MARK was greeted by Fr. David Shewczyk, and led the faithful on the third mission service of the Lenten season.  Fr. Marty Watt preached the homily, and spoke about what the cross means to us as Orthodox Christians. Following the service, His Grace Bishop MARK remarked on the cleanliness of the Parish facilities, and took the opportunity to remind those gathered that it is not enough to be clean on the outside, we must cleanse our souls as well. Fr. David Shewczyk thanked His Grace, the clergy, the choir and those gathered for coming, and all were invited to the Church Parlor for a light lenten luncheon. Fr. Daniel Mathewson took a moment to speak about this years Diocesan Mission, and asked the faithful to support this endeavor with their time, effort or a monetary donation.
