St. John the Baptist Relief Fund
St John the Baptist in Nanticoke Relief Fund Established
On Wednesday, March 7, His Grace, Bishop Tikhon visited St John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Nanticoke, following the fire that devastated the rectory on the previous Sunday. His Grace was in attendance for the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts which was served by the pastor of the parish, Fr. Adam Sexton. Following the Liturgy, His Grace offered some words of consolation and encouragement to Fr. Adam, his family and the faithful of the parish. He also led the faithful in a molieben, offering thanksgiving to God for the safety of all and also asking for God’s blessing on the rebuilding process. The WNEP news story can be viewed HERE
In their discussions, Fr. Adam expressed to the Bishop his personal gratefulness for the outpouring of love and concern from everyone and noted that the immediate needs of the family are being very adequately met by the generosity of those near and far. As the Diocese looks to the long-term needs of the Sexton family and the parish, His Grace, Bishop Tikhon, has established the “St John the Baptist in Nanticoke Relief Fund” for the purpose providing for the ongoing process of restoration.
Donations to this fund can be sent to the Diocesan Center (144 St Tikhon’s Road, Waymart, PA, 18472) where they will be directed to the specific areas of need in consultation with Fr. Adam and the Parish Council. A dedicated checking account has been established and checks should be made out to “St John the Baptist in Nanticoke Relief Fund.”
His Grace expresses his thanks for all the prayers and support for Fr. Adam, his family and the faithful of St John the Baptist Church which have been received from throughout the Orthodox Church in America. He asks all to continue to pray for Fr. Adam, Matushka Angie and their children, as well as for the members of St John’s. His Grace further encourages the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania to be generous in their support of this cause and has requested that a special collection be held in all parishes of the Diocese on the Sunday of the Cross (March 18).
