The Seen and the Unseen
Religious Art, Iconography, and the Distance Between Them
Lecture by Joseph Kaucher
June 23rd, following 6pm Vespers
St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church
93 Zerby Avenue, Edwardsville, PA 18704
Joseph is a graduate of Kutztown University and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he concentrated in drawing, painting, and art history. As a convert to Orthodox Christianity, he brings a unique perspective to the relationship between religious art of the West and iconography. Art is a powerful universal language that silently communicates its message to us. Iconography is theology in color. What's the difference? Come and see what is unseen in art and iconography!
