She was an active member of Holy Ascension Orthodox church, as well as the St. Barbara Ladies Auxiliary of Frackville; Anna was also a member of the Frackville Senior Citizens; and St. Tikhon’s Century Association and the FROC (Federation of Russian Orthodox Club) attending many of their National Conventions held throughout the
She was the oldest living member that was recognized the earliest baptize child (1920) at the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church at the 90th church anniversary.
Anna’s love and devotion for her family, church, and community were a blessing to all those she loved and served. Countless people can boast of having an afghan made by her, which she made not only for her family and friends, but for church raffles and other fundraisers. And there was no one who did not know her at the Blood bank where she so generously gave on a regular basis. She was a member of the Senior Citizen’s Center and especially for many years attended the Altamont Fire Co. softball games as well as supporting the fire company’s various fundraisers and activities.
Anna’s profound love for her grandchildren included her sharing not only her time and experience but her generosity and sense of fun and adventure. Her trips to
And everyone remembers coming to Baba’s for her delicious pork chops or if on a Friday, her pierogies cooked three different ways. Her door was open to everyone whom she welcomed cheerfully and if you came you would be certain to be asked if you were hungry. On a Sunday there was always a ham and her potato salad to look forward to. Her passion for life filled her home with warmth, unconditional love, harmony, music and laughter.
Anna had a deep love for her Orthodox faith and an ongoing concern for St. Tikhon;s Seminary and its students. She supported not only the seminary but also the students many times sending food and other needed things. Her faith on God and love for others was and will continue to be an inspiration for all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by Joseph P. Martin, her husband of 61 years, on
Surviving are 5 sons, The Very Rev. Joseph Martin and his wife Gloria, Wilkes Barre, Fredrick Martin and his wife Carol, Hawk Run Pennsylvania, Melvin Martin and his fiancé, Frackville, David Martin and his wife Cheryl, Harrisburg, Paul (Pepper) Martin, Frackville; 8 grandchildren Cathy Haber, Juliana Good, Marina Martin, Deborah Good, Jaclyn Martin, Gregory Martin, Christina Martin and Joey Martin. 8 great grandchildren, Alex Haber, Elena Martin, Andrew Haber, Kyra Good, Steven Good , Anna Haber , Aaron Haber, and Sara Good.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the Nice-Hart Funeral Home,
Frackville. Requiem Liturgy at 9:30 at Holy Ascension Orthodox church, Frackville with the Rev. Mathew Cantrell officiating. Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 PM Wednesday from the funeral home with Parastas at 7:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to St. Tikhon’s Seminary PO box 130 South
