Diocesan Winter Teen Retreat Held at Refreshing Mountain Retreat Center

STEVENS, PA [DOEPA]

From January 31-February 2, 2025, the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania hosted it's anual Winter Teen Retreat at Refreshing Mountain Retreat Center.

His Eminence Archbishop Mark, attended, with Priest Kirill Zawatski, Acting Rector of Holy Ascension Church in Frackville, PA, serving as chaplain. The weekend began with evening prayers on Friday, followed by morning prayers on Saturday. Throughout the retreat, question-and-answer sessions focused on the Meeting of the Lord, sparking thought-provoking discussions and insightful responses.

Reader Patrick O'Leary, the Retreat Director, opened the retreat with a session titled "Smashing Your Idols," addressing how technology and other distractions can draw us away from Christ. On Saturday, after Morning Prayers and again after Great Vespers, Father Kirill led two discussions titled: "Preparing to Keep the Faith Beyond High School" and "Best Practices for Teens," with thoughts and reflections added by His Eminence offering valuable guidance for young Orthodox Christians.

In addition to these discussions, Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including basketball, kickball, and soccer. The retreat center also offered ziplining, a ropes course, a giant swing, and escape rooms. Most importantly, the youth had the opportunity to strengthen their bonds with fellow Orthodox Christians.

Youth of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., American Carpatho-Russian Diocese of North America, and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and others were also in attendance.

Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy were celebrated in the Retreat Chapel, with the Youth Choir directed by Reader Samuel Regen. The Winter Teen Retreat proved to be a meaningful and enriching experience, demonstrating the youth’s commitment to their faith, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

After a weekend filled with faith, fun, and fellowship, the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania looks forward to St. Tikhon's Summer Camp, scheduled for June 29-July 5, 2025, with registration opening on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Glory to God for all things!
