Archpastoral Visit • Gettysburg, PA

Gettysburg Mission Visited by His Eminence, Archbishop Mark - 06/09/2024

BATH, PA [DOEPA COMMUNICATIONS]

Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

On Sunday, June 9, the Sunday of the Blind Man, His Eminence, Archbishop Mark made an archpastoral visit to the Gettysburg Mission.

Serving with His Eminence was Archpriest Leonid Schmidt, Priest-in-charge of the Gettysburg Mission. Also serving was Deacon Peter Staller, Attached to Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg, PA along with the altar servers of the mission.

His Eminence offered the homily on the Sunday of the Blind Man. He expressed the point that we must look at the question in the gospel and in our own hearts: are we putting on an act or seeking to grow in faith and love? This calls us to examine the authenticity of our spiritual journey and our commitment to living out our faith sincerely.

Following the Dismissal, His Eminence expressed his joy to see the growth of the Gettysburg Mission. His Eminence stated that he will begin a "Parish Wishlist" to help with the mission's liturgical needs. The Diocesan Media Office will be in contact with Archpriest Leonid and will be publishing the wishlist so that the diocese may help the mission and it's faithful.

Following the announcements, Archpriest Leonid presented His Eminence, Archbishop Mark with a gift on behalf of the parish and a donation to assist with St. Tikhon's Summer Camp's scholarships for youth of the diocese. Matushka Laura Schmidt was also thanked for her dedication and work to "beautify the services" with leading the choir.

Following the veneration of the cross, a meal was held.

May God grant His Eminence, Archbishop Mark, Archpriest Leonid and his family, and the faithful of the Gettysburg Mission Many years!

Glory to God for all things!
