On March 31, the Second Sunday of Great Lent, the Sunday of Saint Gregory Palamas, Saint Michael's Church in Mount Carmel, PA, hosted the first Coal Region Lenten Mission Vespers of the season.

Saint Michael's was pleased to welcome Fr. Edward Hughes, attached to Holy Cross Church in Williamsport, PA, Fr. John Onofrey, Rector of St. Herman of Alaska Church in Shillington, PA, who led the choir, Fr. James Weremedic, Rector of St. Mary's Church in Coaldale, PA, and Fr. Vjekoslav Jovicic, Rector of Holy Ascension Church in Frackville, PA, along with their families and parish communities.

Fr. John Onofrey directed the choir and delivered a beautiful homily on salvation and the works that spring from the fact that we are saved.

During the various Coal Region Lenten Mission Vespers, which will be held at various parishes, collections will be made to support the Diocese of Alaska. After the service, a Lenten meal was prepared and shared with fellowship.

The next Mission Vespers will be hosted by Saint Mary’s Church in St. Clair, PA on the Sunday of the Cross, April 7, at 4 pm. All are welcome!
