On Saturday, November 19, 2016, teachers, students, parents and parishioners of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Edwardsville, PA continued their yearly tradition of providing and sharing a thanksgiving meal with members of the local veterans center. This tradition was started three years ago as a way for the students to undertake the idea of Mission, and get into the community and share their faith. Many of the veterans have no family, and the home cooked meal is a treat they have come to look forward to. The Sunday School prepared a full Thanksgiving meal including Turkey and all the trimmings. Fr. Michael Evans led those gathered in prayer, and the group came together and broke bread. The vets were also given gifts bags with food donated by parishioners. The Sunday School will return in December to share a Christmas meal with the veterans as well.
