MECHANICSBURG, PA [DOEPA]
On Sunday, May 18, 2025, Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, hosted the 6th Synaxis of the Heavenly Host, a youth formation program designed to encourage growth in the Orthodox Christian faith through prayer, study, and service.
Following the Divine Liturgy, participants in the program received a total of 19 rank or elective awards in recognition of their progress and dedication. Two new members were also welcomed into the program, receiving their sashes and initial awards as they began their journey in the Heavenly Host. The awards were presented by Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, Rector.
A special milestone was celebrated as Kyra Hojnicki became the first recipient of the Seraphim rank, the highest honor in the program. Kyra played an important role in the early development of the Heavenly Host and has demonstrated exceptional commitment to her spiritual formation. To achieve the Seraphim rank, she completed an extensive list of requirements, including:
- Learning and reciting core prayers of the Orthodox Church, such as the Lord’s Prayer, O Heavenly King, the Trisagion, Morning and Evening prayers, the Nicene Creed, and both Pre- and Post-Communion prayers
- Reading the books of Genesis, Exodus, Isaiah, Mark, John, and Ephesians, as well as fifteen key Bible stories, ranging from Creation to the Three Holy Youths
- Practicing charitable works such as following the Church’s fasting guidelines, giving alms, lighting candles for the poor, and helping with church cleaning duties
- Completing nine elective activities within the program
The parish extended heartfelt congratulations to Kyra and to all of the participants and their families for their outstanding achievements.
