Abbot of St. Tikhon's Monastery to Lead Retreat at Christ the Saviour Church on Acquiring the Mind of Christ

HARRISBURG, PA [DOEPA]

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Christ the Saviour Church in Harrisburg, PA, will welcome Archimandrite Sergius [Bowyer], Abbot of St. Tikhon’s Monastery in South Canaan, PA, for a retreat entitled “Acquiring the Mind of Christ: Embracing the Vision of the Orthodox Church.”

The retreat will explore the call of Orthodox Christians to acquire the mind of Christ and to embrace more fully the vision and life of the Orthodox Church. The presentation will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, with lunch beginning at 12:00 pm.

Originally from California and a convert to the Orthodox Faith, Archimandrite Sergius is a graduate of St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary. He later entered the monastic life at St. Tikhon’s Monastery, where he was tonsured a monk. In addition to his monastic responsibilities, he served in the formation of future clergy through his work as a lecturer in liturgical music at St. Tikhon’s Seminary. Archimandrite Sergius was ordained to the Holy Diaconate and Holy Priesthood in December 2008 by His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah, then Primate of the Orthodox Church in America. Following his election on October 24, 2009, he was installed as the 16th Abbot of St. Tikhon’s Monastery on January 23, 2010. His election marked the first time in 47 years that a member of the monastery brotherhood had been elected to serve as Abbot. During the 110th Annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage at St. Tikhon’s Monastery, on Sunday, May 25, 2014, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon elevated Father Sergius to the dignity of Archimandrite.

The faithful of the Diocese and all interested participants are encouraged to attend this opportunity for spiritual reflection, instruction, and fellowship. There is no cost to attend the retreat. The parish is collecting registration information in advance to ensure that adequate preparations can be made for lunch.
