PHILADELPHIA, PA [DOEPA]
From June 13-14, 2026, the faithful of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Diocesan Cathedral of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, gathered for a weekend of fellowship, education, and service through a prosphora baking workshop and an educational lecture presented by Archpriest Victor Gorodenchuk, Cathedral Dean and Dean of the Philadelphia Deanery.
On Saturday, June 13, parishioners assembled for a morning of prosphora baking. Led by experienced bakers, many faithful who were new to the process learned the sacred tradition of preparing the bread offered for use in the Divine Liturgy. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to contribute directly to the liturgical life of the Cathedral while enjoying fellowship with one another and gaining a deeper appreciation for this important ministry of the Church.
Following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, June 14, Father Victor presented a lecture entitled "The Story of Creation and Scientific Worldview." Drawing upon his expertise in physics and theology, he guided attendees through a discussion of the Creation account found in Genesis 1 and explored how the Orthodox Christian understanding of creation can be considered alongside modern scientific discoveries. The presentation encouraged thoughtful reflection and discussion among those in attendance.
Through opportunities for service, learning, and fellowship, the faithful of St. Stephen’s Cathedral continue to strengthen their life together in Christ and their commitment to the ongoing ministry of the Church.
