HARRISBURG, PA [DOEPA]
On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the faithful of Holy Apostles Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, gathered with the faithful of Christ the Saviour Church in Harrisburg, PA, which hosted the celebration of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts during the Third Week of Great Lent.
The Liturgy was celebrated by Archpriest Stephen Vernak, Rector of Christ the Saviour Church, with Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania, Dean of the Frackville Deanery, and Rector of Holy Apostles Church, concelebrating. Also serving were Deacon Peter Staller and Deacon John Shingara with parish and visiting Altar Servers. The Mitred Archpriests Nicholas Molodyko-Harris and Daniel Kovalak were also in attendance. Reader James Kushlan directed the combined choir.
The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, traditionally served on Wednesdays and Fridays during Great Lent, provides the faithful with the opportunity to receive the Holy Eucharist during the weekdays of the Fast while preserving the penitential and prayerful character of the Lenten season. The gathering of the two sister parishes in Harrisburg reflected the shared spiritual journey of the faithful during Great Lent, as well as the words of the Psalm echoed during the Liturgy: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” (Psalm 132:1), as clergy and laity united in prayer and preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ at Holy Pascha.
Following the Liturgy, a meal was held in the parish hall next door, providing an opportunity for clergy and faithful from both parishes to share in fellowship and continue the spirit of Lenten community.
