Deanery Retreat Featuring Bill Marianes • Wilkes-Barre

Wilkes-Barre Deanery Gathers for Retreat - 10/01/2022

On Saturday, October 1, Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA welcomed His Eminence, Archbishop Mark, as well as clergy, choir members, parish leadership and parishioners from the Wilkes-Barre Deanery for a retreat entitled: Igniting the Flames of Renewal, led by noted retreat leader, Bill Marianes.
The day began with Divine Liturgy concelebrated by Fr. Innocent Neal of Holy Trinity, Fr. Gregory White of Holy Resurrection, Fr. Michael Shepherd of St. Michael’s, and Fr. Paul Witek of All Saints. The choir was composed of members from around the deanery, and blew the roof off. Clergy from other parishes attended but did not serve, including Fr. John Kowalczyk of St. Michael’s, Fr. Nicholas Solak of Holy Trinity, Fr. Seraphim Reynolds of Holy Cross, and Fr. Michael Evans of St. John the Baptist. Guest homilist, who gave a very lively talk, was the special guest of the retreat, Bill Marianes, with the blessing of Archbishop Mark.
Following Divine Liturgy and a giant line of Communicants, those gathered met in the Parish Hall for a bruch provided by members of Holy Trinity. After the meal and Orthodox Fellowship, Bill Marianes began the retreat.
Bill Marianes has inspired thousands of people in over 500 (and counting) Orthodox parishes to discover and live their calling. He has also completed church strategic plans that cover over 26% of Orthodox Christians to help create the most healthy and effective parishes. Bill delivered an engaging, entertaining, and most of all informative presentation on being a good steward of the church. His message is one of hope and inspiration, but he did not sugar coat anything and let the room understand that this is hard work - but the most worthwhile work they could ever do. Bill is working on strategic plans with Christ the Saviour in Harrisburg, and also Holy Trinity in Wilkes-Barre. Bill does all of this for no charge as part of his mission - travel and lodging are all that he asks for. There is much more information regarding Bill and his ministry HERE. He also hosts a podcast on Ancient Faith Radio which can be heard HERE
Bill wrapped up his presentation at about 5:30, and vespers was celebrated, ending a very impactful day for all.
The Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania sponsored this event, covering the costs for Bill and feeding the masses. Holy Trinity Orthodox Church graciously hosted the event. The Retreat was WELL attended, with easily over 100 lay people present. It was a day well spent between Orthodox brothers and sisters.
Glory to God for all good things!
