St. John the Baptist Welcomes Archbishop MARK for Day of Recognition - 09/23/2018

On Sunday, September 23, the Sunday to commemorate the Conception of The Forerunner, St. John, the community of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Edwardsville welcomed His Eminence, Archbishop MARK, who served Divine Liturgy.
Archbishop MARK’s homily urged the parish to expand their ministry, and use their talents in this pursuit.
Following Divine Liturgy, the Very Reverend George Volkovinsky, rector of St. John’s, was awarded with the Palitsa by His Eminence.
As is customary during the Archbishop;s visit, the Archmandrite Anthony Repella Awards were given to those recognized for their service to the Parish. Those parishioners honored this year were Joyce Walsh, Joanne Olejnik, and Eva Turaj.
Also recognized were notable wedding anniversaries. Celebrating their 35th Anniversary are Ben and Lucille Dragan. Celebrating their 40th Anniversary are John and Karen Rushton. Celebrating their 50th Anniversary, Leo and Chris Adamski, and celebrating their 60th Anniversary, Leo and Marie Martin. All couples were recognized for their many years of the Sacrament of marriage.
Following the services and awards, guests retired to the Archmandrite Anthony Repellla Hall for a luncheon. Before eating, Eagle Scout candidate Vladimir Gingo presented the Parish Council monies left over from his Eagle Scout project at the church, which was rehabbing the parish grounds.
