36th Annual March for Life - 01/22/2009

On Thursday, January 22, 2009, His Grace, Bishop Tikhon, together with
clergy and faithful of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania,
participated in the 36th Annual March for Life in Washington, DC.

On Wednesday evening, January 21, a Vespers service was celebrated at
St Nicholas Cathedral, after which His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah
offered some inspiring words concerning the sanctity of life and the
centrality of the person in Orthodox theology and life.

The following day, His Beatitude was the first of the religious
leaders to offer comments from the podium. He was joined by Bishop
Tikhon and by Archbishop Nicholae of the Romanian Archdiocese, and was
introduced by Archpriest John Kowalczyk, the spiritual advisor of
Orthodox Christians for Life. Also present on the stage were
Archimandrite Zacchaeus and Archpriest Eric Tosi. A video of His
Beatitude's message can be found here:

Many Orthodox clergy and faithful from throughout the United States
marched under the large "Orthodox Christians for Life" banner,
including a delegation from St Tikhon's Seminary, lead by Archpriest
Michael Dahulich and a delegation from St Vladimir's Seminary lead by
Archpriest Chad Hatfield. At the conclusion of the March, the Orthodox
group gathered to sing a memorial service and His Beatitude offered
some more reflections:
