On May 12, 2011, a meeting of the Diocesan Council was held in South Canaan at the Diocesan Center.
His Grace, Bishop TIKHON offered his report on the life of the Diocese, focusing on recent events within the Orthodox Church in America. He reported on his trip to Chicago for the consecration of Bishop MATTHIAS as ruling hierarch for the Diocese of the Midwest and for the subsequent meetings of the Holy Synod (the minutes of the Holy Synod Meeting can be found here, and Metropolitan Council (a summary of the meeting can be found here).
His Grace also announced the formation of a Parish Revitalization Committee as was resolved at the 2010 Diocesan Assembly. Appointments are presently being made and the committee will hold its initial meeting on June 23rd 2011, with the immediate goal of developing and implementing a plan to revitalize one parish within our diocese.
The Extraordinary Diocesan Assembly, originally scheduled for June 25, has been cancelled since, to date, no resolutions have been received by the Diocesan resolutions committee. Those parishes or diocesan institutions that wish to submit resolutions or Statute revisions may still do so directly through the resolutions committee of the OCA, as outlined here.
A motion was approved to change the fiscal year of our diocese to the calendar year (January 1-December 31) to coincide with the fiscal year of the Orthodox Church in America.
The Chancellor, Fr. John Kowalczyk, presented his report, highlighting some of the recent activities of the Bishop and summarizing recent clergy changes. He also presented a draft for proposed Diocesan By-laws relating to the Diocesan Assembly for review and further development.
The treasurer, Fr. Martin Browne, presented his Report and one of the diocesan auditors, Mr. David Yeosock, also presented the semi-annual audit report, including an audit of the insurance fund. Everything was reported to be in good order.
Mr. David Yeosock also presented a report from the Metropolitan Council, adding further details concerning the recent meeting summarized above.
The next meetings of the Diocesan Council were set for August 11th and November 15th. Any of the clergy or faithful of the diocese who might desire further information about the meeting may contact their Diocesan Council Representatives (a list of the members may be found here)
