REMEMBERING METROPOLITAN HERMAN
ON THE fourTH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS REPOSE
Archpastoral Directive from His Eminence Archbishop Mark
Dear to God,
Christ is in our midst! He is and ever shall be!
This Sunday, September 6, marks the fourth anniversary of the repose of His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman (+9/6/22). We remember with gratitude his many years of dedicated service to Christ and His Church. His Beatitude served for more than two decades as Bishop and later Archbishop of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania before his election as Primate of the Orthodox Church in America in 2002. He served as Metropolitan of All America and Canada until his retirement in 2008.
Throughout his ministry, Metropolitan Herman was a dedicated teacher, mentor, and pastor to countless seminarians, clergy, and faithful. His love for the divine services, his commitment to the Diocese, St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary, the institutions, and lives he strengthened remain an enduring part of his legacy within our God-protected Diocese and throughout the Orthodox Church in America.
In observance of this anniversary, I am directing all parishes of the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania to offer the Litany for the Departed for the repose of His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman and to intone “Memory Eternal” for him at the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, September 6.
May the Lord grant rest with the saints to His departed servant, Metropolitan Herman, and may his memory be eternal!
Your unworthy father in Christ,
+MARK
Archbishop of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania
