OLYPHANT, PA [DOEPA]
On Sunday, July 19, 2026, after the Divine Liturgy, parishioners of St. Nicholas Church in Olyphant, PA, assembled for the customary blessing of vehicles in anticipation of the Feast of the Holy Glorious Prophet Elijah, observed on July 20.
Following the Divine Liturgy, Priest Nathan Clausson blessed the vehicles and other modes of transportation of the faithful, asking the Lord to protect and guide all who travel in them. The annual custom is observed in many Orthodox parishes near the Feast of the Holy Prophet Elijah, who is traditionally regarded as a heavenly protector of travelers and is closely associated with chariots through his fiery ascent into heaven.
The blessing also served as an opportunity to give thanks for the Lord's continued protection and to seek His mercy for safe travel throughout the coming year. Through the prayers of the Holy Glorious Prophet Elijah, may the Lord preserve all those who travel by land, sea, and air, granting them safety and protection throughout their journeys.
