SOUTH CANAAN, PA [DOEPA]
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, campers from throughout the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania and beyond arrived at St. Tikhon's Monastery in South Canaan, PA, as St. Tikhon's Summer Camp 2026 officially got underway for a week of faith, fellowship, and fun.
Campers were warmly welcomed by His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania and Mr. Dan Peck, Camp Director, together with the clergy, counselors, and staff, who greeted both new and returning campers as they arrived throughout the afternoon.
Following registration and orientation, campers participated in a variety of icebreakers and field games, providing an opportunity to become acquainted with one another, reconnect with old friends, and begin building the Christ-centered friendships that are a hallmark of the camp experience. Dinner consisted of a fasting meal, allowing the camp community to gather together for its first shared meal of the week.
After dinner, the camp community gathered in prayer for the celebration of Daily Vespers, served by Priest Joseph Sharman, Camp Chaplain and Associate Priest at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Wilmington, DE. Prior to the service, the camp chapel, which will serve as the spiritual heart of the camp throughout the week, was blessed by Priest Paul Witek, Rector of All Saints Church in Olyphant, PA, and Academic Dean of St. Tikhon's Theological Seminary. The newly installed iconostasis was also blessed, and the chapel, iconostasis, and faithful gathered were sprinkled with holy water, asking God’s blessing upon the sacred space and all who will worship there throughout the week. The first service of the week then brought campers, counselors, clergy, and staff together in worship, establishing a prayerful foundation for the days ahead and reminding all in attendance that life at St. Tikhon’s Summer Camp is centered on Christ and the liturgical life of His Church.
This year, St. Tikhon's Summer Camp welcomes more than 175 campers and over 75 counselors with staff from throughout the Diocese and beyond. Throughout the week, participants will take part in the daily cycle of liturgical services, educational sessions, outdoor recreation, team activities, evening programs, and countless opportunities for fellowship, all designed to foster spiritual growth, strengthen friendships, and deepen their life in Christ.
