On behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Mark, the Clergy, Matushki and Faithful of the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, the Diocesan Media Office extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2026 and celebrates the academic achievements of graduates from across the Diocese.

Throughout the graduation season, parish communities throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware have recognized students who have completed significant educational milestones, including graduations from high schools, colleges and universities, trade schools, graduate programs, and other institutions of learning. These accomplishments reflect years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work, supported by the prayers and encouragement of families, parish communities, educators, and mentors. The Diocese takes great joy in recognizing these graduates, many of whom have remained active participants in the life of their parishes while pursuing their academic goals. Their achievements serve as a testament not only to their commitment and diligence but also to the strong foundation of faith, family, and community that has supported them throughout their educational journeys.

Among those who graduated this year are Deacon Alexander Nescott of St. Herman of Alaska Church in Glen Mills, PA; Deacon Marek Szeliga of St. Mark’s Church in Wrightstown, PA; Deacon Jerome Stafford of Assumption of the Holy Virgin Church in Philadelphia, PA; and Reader John Heitzenrater of St. Nicholas Church in Bethlehem, PA, who were present to receive Certificates in Diaconal Formation during the 84th Annual Commencement Exercises of St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The two-year Diaconal Formation Program, held at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Diocesan Cathedral of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, provides academic, theological, liturgical, and practical formation for men blessed by their bishops to prepare for future diaconal service in the Orthodox Church in America, subject to the approval of their diocesan bishop and the Holy Synod. During the commencement exercises, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon and His Eminence Archbishop Michael conferred fourteen Master of Divinity degrees, twelve Certificates in Diaconal Formation, and ten Certificates in Clinical Pastoral Education.

As Orthodox Christians, we understand that education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge, but also the cultivation of wisdom, character, and a spirit of service. Whether continuing their studies, entering the workforce, pursuing vocational training, serving in the military, or embarking upon new opportunities, the graduates of the Class of 2026 carry with them the gifts and talents entrusted to them by God for the benefit of both the Church and society.

We, as a Diocese, pray that the Lord will continue to guide their paths, bless their endeavors, and grant them wisdom, strength, and success in the years ahead. May God grant them many years!
