HARRISBURG, PA [DOEPA]
From April 18–19, 2026, Antipascha (Saint Thomas Sunday), His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania made an archpastoral visit to Christ the Saviour Church in Harrisburg, PA, where he presided over the parish’s patronal feast. Throughout his visit, His Eminence led the faithful in prayer, presided over the festal services, and spent time in fellowship with the parish community.
Christ the Saviour Church, holds a unique place in the capital region as a pan-Orthodox, multi-ethnic, and English-speaking community. Established in 1963 by a small group of faithful seeking to serve a growing and diverse population, the parish has grown into a vibrant community of nearly 300 adults and over 125 children, continuing to welcome individuals of all backgrounds into the life of the Church.
With the blessing of His Eminence, Archpriest Stephen Vernak traveled to be present at a family wedding. In his absence, Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania, Dean of the Frackville Deanery, and Rector of Holy Apostles Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, welcomed the Archbishop on behalf of Archpriest Stephen and the parish community.
On Saturday, April 18, upon his arrival at the temple, His Eminence was warmly received by members of the parish. A Panikhida was served for those who had fallen asleep in the Lord during Bright Week. The Paschal Hours were then sung, followed by the breaking and distribution of the Artos to the faithful. Great Vespers was served by His Eminence, with Deacon John Shingara.
On Sunday, April 19, upon his arrival, His Eminence was greeted by Mrs. Eleanor Herman, Parish Council President, and by Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, with the Cross. Archbishop Mark presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Concelebrating were Archpriest Timothy, with Deacons John Shingara and Stephen Boyd, cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Allison Park, PA, with servers from the parish. The choir was led under the direction of Reader James Kushlan.
During the Divine Liturgy, Archpriest Timothy offered the homily, reflecting on the Gospel reading of Saint Thomas Sunday and the call to steadfast faith in the Risen Lord.
With over 200 faithful in attendance, many approached the Holy Chalice to receive the Most Pure Body and Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Following the service, His Eminence offered an archpastoral word, expressing his gratitude for the warm reception and the evident vitality of the parish community. In response, Archpriest Timothy thanked Archbishop Mark for his presence. After the veneration of the Cross and the reading of the post-Communion prayers, a festal meal was held in the parish hall. This gathering provided a joyful opportunity for parishioners to spend time with His Eminence and to continue their celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection in fellowship with one another.
