BATH, PA [DOEPA COMMUNICATIONS]
The Diocesan Media Office is pleased to announce a lecture by His Eminence Archbishop Mark titled “The Formation of the New Testament Canon.” The presentation will take place during his Archpastoral Visit to Holy Apostles Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, following Great Vespers at 5:00 PM. All are warmly invited to attend!
In this presentation, His Eminence will explore the historical development of the New Testament Canon and the factors that shaped the Church’s recognition of the sacred writings received as Scripture. Drawing upon the life and experience of the early Church, the lecture will consider how the apostolic tradition, liturgical use, and the witness of the faithful contributed to the discernment and preservation of the New Testament as it has been received within the Orthodox Church.
The lecture will also reflect on the relationship between the New Testament Canon and the Church’s understanding of the New Covenant, highlighting how the Scriptures are inseparable from the living tradition of the Church. Through this exploration, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the way the Holy Scriptures emerged within the life of the Church and continue to guide the faithful in the proclamation of the Gospel. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion. All are welcomed to attend this evening of learning and reflection as the faithful gather to deepen their understanding of the Holy Scriptures and the life of the Church.
