HARRISBURG, PA [DOEPA]
On Sunday, March 1, 2026, the faithful community of Christ the Saviour Church in Harrisburg, PA, celebrated the first Sunday of Great Lent, the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, commemorating the restoration of the holy icons.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Archpriest Stephen Vernak, Rector, and the Mitred Archpriest Daniel Kovalak concelebrating, with Deacon John Shingara. The choir was prayerfully led under the direction of Reader James Kushlan.
During the Divine Liturgy, the parish welcomed two new catechumens, Benjamin Taylor and Matthew Romain, who formally began their preparation for reception into the Holy Orthodox Church. The community also celebrated the churching of Callum Metcalf and offered a marriage blessing for Jerry and Mary White on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, giving thanks for their many years of faithfulness and commitment.
The faithful participated in a solemn procession commemorating the restoration of the holy icons, bearing witness to the Orthodox confession of the Incarnation and the victory of the holy faith. In addition, the oath of office was administered to the newly elected members of the parish council, entrusting them with stewardship and leadership in the life of the parish for the coming year.
