PAOLI, PA [DOEPA]
From February 9–11, 2026, the Clergy of the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania gathered for the annual Pre-Lenten Clergy Retreat at Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, PA, held with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Mark.
The theme of this year’s retreat was Catechesis of the Faithful. The featured presenter was Archpriest Victor Gorodenchuk, Dean of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA, and Dean of the Philadelphia Deanery, who led a series of sessions dedicated to strengthening the ministry of the clergy.
In his presentation, Father Victor reflected on the meaning of “symbol,” exploring its theological depth and liturgical significance. Drawing from the Old Testament Temple and its fulfillment in the Church as the Temple of Christ, he offered a practical and theologically grounded framework for preaching rooted in Scripture, Tradition, and the living worship of the Church.
Throughout the retreat, clergy participated in daily services, engaged in discussion and reflection, and shared fellowship over meals. The gathering provided a time of renewal and spiritual refreshment as the clergy prepared for the upcoming Advent season and renewed their commitment to the faithful pastoral care of their communities.
