HARRISBURG, PA [DOEPA]
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Orthodox parishes of the Greater Harrisburg Area gathered at City Island Park for the 17th Annual Pan-Orthodox Great Blessing of the Susquehanna River, celebrating the Feast of the Theophany of our Lord.
Following a year when the event could not be held due to the weather, the renewal of this sacred annual tradition was met with particular joy and thanksgiving by the clergy and faithful in attendance. The celebration brought together Orthodox Christians from across the region in witness to the unity of the Church and the sanctification of all creation.
Clergy from multiple Orthodox parishes across the Greater Harrisburg area concelebrated the service, demonstrating the bonds of faith and fellowship that unite the local Orthodox community. Despite differences in ethnic heritage and jurisdictional affiliation, the gathered canonical parishes stood together in one voice to glorify God and ask His blessing upon the waters and the land. This annual gathering serves as a reminder that the Orthodox Church remains one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, transcending human boundaries while honoring the diverse traditions that enrich our common faith.
Glory to God for all things!
