Archbishop Mark Makes Archpastoral Visit to Holy Trinity Church

POTTSTOWN, PA [DOEPA]

From January 25-26, 2025, the Feast of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania made an archpastoral visit to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Pottstown, PA, presiding over the services and being with the faithful.

On Saturday, January 25, His Eminence arrived at the church and Great Vespers was served by Archpriest John Edward, Rector, and Protodeacon Peter Skoog. His Eminence presided from the throne.

On Sunday, January 26, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated. Serving with His Eminence were Archpriest John Edward, Protodeacon Peter Skoog, and servers of the parish. The Choir was led under the direction of Mrs. Kristina Carter.

His Eminence offered the homily, emphasizing spiritual renewal and reflection as the Church prepares for Great Lent. He spoke on the upcoming Triodion Sundays, highlighting humility from the Publican and the Pharisee, repentance and God’s mercy from the Prodigal Son, self-awareness and mercy toward others from the Last Judgment, and forgiveness as the cornerstone of Christian life.

At the Divine Liturgy, many of the faithful received Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

After the dismissal, His Eminence warmly greeted the faithful of Holy Trinity Church. He offered words of encouragement to Father John and the faithful present. His Eminence reminded the faithful that next Sunday, The Feast of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple is also the Sunday of Zacchaeus, the last "regular" Sunday before the Triodion (Preparatory Sundays before Great Lent). He urged those present to take the Great Fast seriously and to give their best, not perfection.

Following the veneration of the Cross and reading of the post communion prayers, a meal was held in the parish hall downstairs.

May God grant His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, His Eminence Archbishop Mark, Archpriest John, Matushka Suja, their family, and the faithful of Holy Trinity many years!

Glory to God for all things!
